Championship results: Aaron Mooy milks the applause as tearaway Huddersfield romp into four-point lead
Terriers keep up the pace after win at Leeds and Newcastle move into second with 2-0 triumph at Derby
AARON MOOY's spectacular long-range strike at Leeds took unbeaten leaders Huddersfield Town four points clear at the top of the Championship.
On-loan Manchester City midfielder Mooy smashed a 25-yarder into the top corner after the break.
The Terriers' quickfire start to the season has even shocked boss David Wagner. He said: "There is every reason to be surprised.
"I don't know which team in this division can say they will start with 16 points after six games.
"We have deserved every one of the 16 points and we have great togetherness and a very good working attitude, especially in the defence."
Leeds, who slip to third from bottom, rarely threatened and manager Gary Monk said: "We have to get a real reaction against Blackburn on Tuesday. We need to take the three points, it's as simple as that."
Newcastle moved up to second with a comfortable 2-0 victory at Derby County with goals from Yoan Gouffran and DeAndre Yedlin.
Said manager Rafa Benitez of Gouffran: "He's been working hard, scored a good goal and is a good professional. I hope it continues."
Norwich are fifth after a 3-2 home win over Cardiff. Cameron Jerome scored from close range and Russell Martin headed in from a corner before Anthony Pilkington's late goal gave the Bluebirds hope, only for Josh Murphy to score Norwich's third.
Pilkington struck again in added time and Canaries' boss Alex Neil: "I could have done without what happened. I was sweating towards the end. I think the lads clocked off."
Clayton Donaldson missed one penalty before scoring another as Birmingham won 1-0 at 10-man Fulham, who had Michael Madl sent off for a second booking when he brought down Donaldson.
It was Fulham's first loss of the season and boss Slavisa Jokanovic said: "If it's one game with so many mistakes then it's my responsibility - we have to continue to work hard."
Brighton also lost at home, 2-0 to Scott Hogan's double for Brentford.
Loanee Adam Armstrong scored a brilliant debut goal to give Barnsley a 2-1 triumph at struggling Preston.
Armstrong, brought in from Newcastle, outwitted Alex Baptiste before curling home after Sam Winnall had put Barnsley ahead. Aiden McGeady scored for Brighton.
Sam Gallagher's header earned Blackburn just their second Championship point of the season in a 1-1 against QPR. Tjaronn Chery's 25-yard free-kick had given the hosts the lead.
Said Rovers boss Owen Coyle: "If we continue to perform consistently like that we will win games and move up the table."
Fernando Forestieri helped Sheffield Wednesday beat Wigan 2-1. Will Grigg had given the visitors the perfect start, striking after just five minutes, but Scotland striker Steven Fletcher scored his first goal for the Owls to draw them level.
Said Wigan manager Gary Caldwell: "We have lost games by the odd goal and I believe a win is around the corner."
Substitute Will Miller's injury-time equaliser denied Wolves victory over Burton. Miller turned in Lloyd Dyer's cross to make it 1-1 in the fourth minute of added time.
Lucas Akins had a first half penalty saved by Wolves keeper Carl Ikeme after Prince Oniangue had broken the deadlock for Wolves.
Bobby Reid squeezed in a late equaliser for Bristol City in the 2-2 draw Rotherham.
Izzy Brown opened the scoring for the Millers and Aden Flint handed them an own goal to make it 2-0.
But Tammy Abraham reduced the deficit from close range and then Reid struck. Said Rotherham manager Alan Stubbs:
"I can understand the frustration of the fans after the game, but there has to be some realism. "The Championship has become an even harder league and it is harder to compete. You are fighting an uphill battle."
