Dimitri Payet’s outrageous Rabona for Michail Antonio goal should be assist of the season

West Ham star had played just 56 minutes so far this season but showed no signs of rust against Watford

Dimitri Payet

DIMITRI PAYET'S outrageous Rabona is an early contender for the greatest assist of the season.

The West Ham playmaker - who had just 56 minutes of action to this name so far this campaign - chipped in superbly for Michail Antonio to, yep you guessed it, head in.

But it was the Frenchman's moment of sheer brilliance on his first start of the season that caused jaws to drop.

Cutting in from the right he left the Hornets rearguard perplexed before wrapping his right leg behind and around his left.

The dink evaded all before an on-rushing Antonio stuck it in at the far post.

It was Payet's second assist of the game and fans on social media were quick to praise him.

Some labelled him "world class" while another said he was "incredible".

Not everyone was so in awe though.

Andrew Jameson said: "Nice Rabona from Payet but is it because he doesn't have a left foot?"

But Kevin Kilbane said: "Sensational from Payet, a wonderful ball in and Antonio has a straightforward tap-in.

"You can see how West Ham's players have been given a huge lift with Payet in the side. Their main man is back."
