Former Barcelona boss Guardiola cheekily put the ball behind his back, but Rooney was not in the mood for fun and games with the score at 1-0 at the time thanks to Kevin de Bruyne's early strike.

Both Rooney and Guardiola protested their innocent after the flare-up, but Rooney's attempts were in vain as City went 2-0 through Kelechi Iheanacho after another Daley Blind error.

Claudio Bravo's error then gifted Zlatan Ibrahimovic a goal back for United.
