Newcastle and Everton fans in stitches as Lascelles and Holgate assist EACH OTHER for own goals inside two minutes

FANS have been left in disbelief after Jamaal Lascelles and Mason Holgate incredibly assisted each other in a frantic two-minute period at St James' Park.

Everton took the lead away at Newcastle in fortuitous fashion after Magpies skipper Lascelles inadvertently put the ball into his own net.

A Toffees free-kick saw the ball land to Holgate's feet, where he rifled low beyond goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.

But January signing Matt Targett expertly cleared his effort off the line, which smashed off Lascelles and into the goal in the 36th minute.

Their lead didn't last long, as Eddie Howe's men found themselves back on level terms thanks to another comical own goal.

And once again Lascelles and Holgate were at the heart of it.

Lascelles raced onto a Kieran Trippier corner, where his thumping header cannoned off the bar.

However it then bounced off a helpless Holgate who was unable to stop the ball from crossing the line.

One shocked user tweeted: "That is actually mad."

Meanwhile one stated: "Holgate & Lascelles both competing for Man of the Match."

Another shocked fan remarked: "Let me get this right, Holgate got the assist for Lascelles own goal. 2 minutes later, Lascelles assists a Holgate own goal. What. The. F***."

Newcastle would go on to win the match and move out of the bottom three after beating their Merseyside opponents 3-1.
