Tottenham and Newcastle keen on Yannick Carrasco transfer but face competition from Man Utd and Chelsea for Atletico ace

TOTTENHAM and Newcastle are preparing to move for Atletico Madrid winger Yannick Carrasco, according to reports.

The 28-year-old Belgian, who had a £50million release clause which has now expired, returned to Spain for a second spell under Diego Simeone in 2020 following two seasons in the Chinese Super League with Dalian Professional.

And he has become an integral part of Atletico's set-up in the current campaign, starting 18 of their 21 LaLiga games.

So far this season he has scored two goals and provided six assists for the Spanish champions.

SunSport understands Atletico are reluctant to let him go.

But, according to , Spurs and Newcastle are ready to try and secure the player before the January window shuts.

But if they cannot secure his signature then he could still be available in the summer.

However, Manchester United and Chelsea are also being linked with a move for him.

So Tottenham and Newcastle may feel it is now or never if they are to acquire the Atleti man.

Barcelona are also discussing the possibility of a summer move for the Belgian.

He can play as a left wingback, right wingback or in a more attacking position on either flank.

Simeone has been thoroughly impressed with Carrasco since he returned to the club two years ago.

Speaking previously about him, the Argentine said: “He has done a good job since he came back to the club.

"It was a huge effort he had to make to come back, and he did. We see the result.

"He has become the Carrasco we knew, vertical, determining towards the opposing goal."

Atletico are currently fourth in La Liga, a huge 14 points off table toppers and fierce rivals Real Madrid.
