Manchester United transfer news: Full-back Matteo Darmian ‘set to leave’ Old Trafford in January after clashing with boss Jose Mourinho

The Italian defender has not played a game under Mourinho this season and Juventus reportedly want to seal a loan move

MANCHESTER UNITED are set to lose defender Matteo Darmian after a row with Jose Mourinho.

Darmian, 26, arrived at Old Trafford last summer and has since proved to be solid defensively.

However, it appears that the Italian defender clashed with United coach Mourinho and could leave the Premier League in January.

Antonio Valencia has started the new campaign as Mourinho's first-choice right-back and it is understood that Darmian will be allowed to leave on loan at the start of 2017.

Juventus, the Serie A champions, are willing to land Darmian on loan as soon as the January transfer window opens.

But, Darmian has previously indicated his desire to stay and fight for a spot in a bid to usurp Antonio Valencia.

He said: "I think it's good to have such competition within the squad because there are a lot of good players for every position in a big team.

"You just have to be ready for when the manager gives you a chance. I think Jose is a great manager, he's very hungry and his victories and successes speak volumes for him."

Darmian made 39 appearances for Man United last season after joining from Torino.

Meanwhile, Mourinho will invite Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola for a drink after this weekend's Manchester Derby to bury the old hatchet from Spain.
