Tottenham star Vincent Janssen out to emulate Ruud van Nistelrooy – who’s from the same area of Holland

Recored-breaking Manchester United goalscorer and Spurs new boy were both born near Oss and he hopes that isn't where similarities end

TOTTENHAM new boy Vincent Janssen is out to emulate Manchester United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy.

The two Dutch strikers were both born in the same town of Oss and earned Premier League moves after setting the Eredivisie alight.

And while Janssen admits he is not in the same class just yet - he insists he can one day match the record-breaking goalscorer.

He said: "In England they are just finding out that me and Van Nistelrooy are from the same area.

"But I wouldn't say we're being mentioned in the same breath - maybe that will come. I would think that's an enormous honour. I'm not as far as him yet."

Van Nistelrooy scored 95 goals in 150 league appearances for United after joining from PSV in 2001.

Janssen, 22, netted 27 in 34 top-flight games for AZ last season and has settled in well at Spurs despite failing to get off the mark so far.

He added: "I've always felt a strong urge to prove myself. Maybe that's my biggest talent.

"I can tell the crowd appreciates the way I play.

"Within the squad I was immediately accepted. We have a young, ambitious group, with no players who feel they've already arrived.

"That made it easier, I think. I really was accommodated fantastically."
