Why it would be totally ridiculous for Arsenal to hire Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe to replace Arsene Wenger

FAN VIEW: While the planning is good, Cherries boss Howe is a pretty uninspiring choice for the Emirates hotseat

IT'S good to see that Arsenal are giving serious thought to replacing Arsene Wenger.

But surely the right man for the job isn’t Eddie Howe?

Eddie Howe's odds of being the next Arsenal manager have plummeted

SunSport broke the news this week that the Gunners are looking at Bournemouth manager Howe, with attention starting to turn to life after Wenger.

For years there’s been a worry that Arsenal don’t have a real plan for replacing the Frenchman, and instead would promote somebody from within or grab whoever is currently in vogue.

But while the planning is good, Howe is a pretty uninspiring choice.

The whole reason Arsenal have gone through pain in recent years is to build a new stadium and become a European super power – like Barcelona or Real Madrid.

So Arsenal should be looking for one of the ‘super managers’ to take the club on. A huge name who is proven at winning trophies and can attract all the best players in the world. Diego Simeone would be a pretty good place to start looking and planning.

Getting an unproven boss after Wenger could set Arsenal back further just at the time when the club should be reaping the rewards of having an incredible stadium and plenty of cash.

Howe represents a step back.

He’s a talented, ambitious, young boss but what has he really achieved in the game? He won promotion with Bournemouth – who had a big budget – a mixed record when it comes to buying and a lack of top level experience. It just doesn’t excite some of the most impatient fans around.

If Arsenal are going to move down the road of a young, hungry boss, why not go for a Thierry Henry or Dennis Bergkamp? They at least have that connection to the club and would get time from fans.

It remains to be seen what the coming months will bring, with Wenger’s contract up in the summer, but whenever the decision is taken to hire a new manager – Arsenal owe it to the fans to not gamble and to make an exciting hire.
