Ralf Rangnick admits he has SCRAPPED 4-2-2-2 as Man Utd players fail to adapt with Jadon Sancho set for wing role
RALF RANGNICK is scrapping 4-2-2- 2 and switching Jadon Sancho to the wing after Manchester United failed to adapt to his preferred formation.
The interim Old Trafford boss will use 4-3-3 from now on after being frustrated by inconsistent performances, with four wins and a defeat in his eight games in charge.
And although he was fuming with United crumbling from 2-0 up on Saturday he will stick with the shape he deployed in that 2-2 Premier League draw at Aston Villa.
Rangnick also wants England ace Sancho to build on his improvement and reproduce his Borussia Dortmund form, starting at Brentford in the Prem on Wednesday night.
The German said: “We have now decided to play a 4-3-3 like we did against Aston Villa, with one holding six, two eights and three offensive players.
“It's clear in a 4-3-3 that he (Sancho) is a player for either of the wing positions, either left or right, he can play both.
"I think he would prefer a little bit the left side, because then he can switch inside and shoot on goal with his strong right foot.
“But for me there's no questions about his position.
"He's a winger, as we say in Germany, someone who can dribble fast with the ball and for me there's not at all a question over the best possible position for him.
“But again, it's not only about training at the highest possible level.

"I said that to him by the way the day before yesterday - confirm the performances you show in training when you're playing on the pitch.”
United have used at least six formations in Rangnick's short reign.
And although they have let in just six goals in eight matches, they have still struggled for consistency and fluency.
He said last week: “For me, the formation is a means to an end, it’s a tool.
"Of course, in my opinion, this formation has to fit to the players you have available.
“In the long term, it would be good to have one formation or one style of play,"
