MANCHESTER UNITED and Arsenal have been put on red alert after Borussia Monchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl admitted transfer target Denis Zakaria could leave.
The Swiss defensive midfielder, 25, has been heavily linked with a move away in January having entered the final six months of his deal at Borussia-Park.
With Zakaria unwilling to extend his stay at Monchengladbach, the German side are open to cashing in on on the player to avoid losing him on a free.
And Eberl has declared that the midfielder - as well as defender Matthias Ginter - could be sold in a cut-price deal.
He told : "There’s nothing on my desk.
"It's not surprising that there is speculation about both of them and especially Denis, but it's no longer our topic.
“They both still have a half year of contract. But we have also said again and again that if something comes up that we have to deal with for financial reasons.
"I cannot rule out that both will leave the club in winter - or one.

"There will be changes in the summer. We've worked with one squad for almost three years now.”
Arsenal are one of the clubs understood to be battling United in the race to sign Zakaria.
It was claimed earlier this month that the Red Devils have already offered the ex-Young Boys ace a pre-contract.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano recently stated how there are as many as four clubs that are looking to secure Zakaria's services.
He tweeted: "Manchester United have made no bid for Denis Zakaria as things stand.
“The option has been discussed as he’s appreciated by Rangnick - but there’s still no official bid to Borussia.
“More than four clubs are already working to sign Zakaria as free agent in July. Open race.”
