The new boss quickly moved to snap up Polish ace Grzegorz Krychowiak, putting Matuidi’s first-team place in doubt.

Juventus also made a late move to sign the 29-year-old after eventually selling Paul Pogba to the Red Devils.

But PSG chiefs decided to keep Matuidi at the Parc des Princes for the upcoming season, and the midfielder admits he had no choice but to accept the decision as the French champions look to retain their title once again.

He said: “There was a concrete request. I wanted to complete a transfer.

“The club decided otherwise, you have to accept that. I went through a difficult period.

“My request was not heard. I am not unhappy at PSG, I am good.

“The manager believes in me, I think that was not insignificant in the club’s decision.”
