‘Talented player’ – Arsenal urged to seal Alexander Isak transfer by Man Utd legend Rio Ferdinand from Real Sociedad

MANCHESTER UNITED legend Rio Ferdinand has backed Arsenal to sign Alexander Isak as he labelled the Real Sociedad striker a ‘talented player’.

The 22-year-old has been heavily linked with a switch to the Emirates this month as Mikel Arteta looks to bolster his attack in his quest for a top four finish.

Rio Ferdinand believes Sweden international Isak would fit in well at the Emirates

Isak, who has chipped in with eight goals and two assists in 23 games in all competitions this term, could be brought in to replace Newcastle target Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Meanwhile Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nkeitah are facing uncertain futures as they approach the end of their time in North London.

And fourth-choice striker Folarin Balogun is poised to link up with Middlesbrough on a loan deal until the end of the campaign.

Fiorentina centre-forward Dusan Vlahovic is claimed to be the subject of a player-plus-cash bid from Arsenal.

But the Serbia international is believed to have reservations about linking up with the Gunners as he waits for offers from bigger clubs.

Ferdinand has since stated that Arsenal should bring Isak to North London having been impressed by his displays for Sweden at Euro 2020.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, he said: “He will be a good signing.

“Another young talented player. He has done really well in the Euros for Sweden, I thought.

“He is a talented player, man.”

Arsenal were keen on Isak last summer, but the ex-Borussia Dortmund man penned a new long-term deal at Sociedad until 2026.

However he gave the Carabao Cup semi-finalists hope of landing him in November after declaring he wishes to play in England in the future.

He remarked: “I am in a good place at the moment, I am very happy, but one day it would be nice to play in England as well.

“They have six or seven of the biggest clubs in the world, it is a very high level, and of course one day it would be an alternative.

“Every player wants to be the best version of themselves and reach the highest possible level.

“People will always count the goals, I want to score, but I want to be a modern striker.

“I love playing football and that means being involved as much as possible. I think that is why Spain has suited me very well.”
