ARSENAL are locked in a tight tussle for a top four spot.

The Gunners are aiming to return to the Champions League for the first time since the 2016-17 season.

Mikel Arteta's side currently sit in fourth place, although rivals Tottenham are just two points behind with two games in hand.

Manchester United and West Ham are also in the mix, with the top four race set to entertain neutrals.

For Arsenal to come out on top, Arteta will hope to bolster his squad in a few key positions this month.

First of all, he has a mess upfront to sort out.

The Gunners have actually improved since captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was exiled last month for disciplinary reasons.

Alexandre Lacazette has been an excellent focal point, while Eddie Nketiah bagged an impressive hat-trick in the EFL Cup.

But with both forwards set to be out of contract in the summer, Arsenal will have to make some key decisions.

The Gunners could do with recruiting a new centre-forward, with Fiorentina hitman Dusan Vlahovic having been linked.

Real Sociedad and Sweden ace Alexander Isak is also on their radar.

Either striker would fit the right age profile that the Gunners are looking for, at 21 and 22 respectively.

The Gunners could potentially do with reinforcements in midfield.

Thomas Partey was immense against Manchester City last weekend but has now departed for Afcon, while Granit Xhaka can be erratic.

With Ainsley Maitland-Niles set to join Roma, perhaps fans would enjoy a short-term deal being handed to Jack Wilshere - with the free agent having been training at Arsenal for months.

Boss Arteta admitted that the former England international is still good enough to play in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, the Gunners have also been linked with the likes of Denis Zakaria, Renato Sanches and Bruno Guimares.

Arsenal have looked solid defensively of late with Gabriel Magalhaes and Ben White at the back.

But Arteta won't want to have to rely on their understudies again after their disastrous displays at the start of the campaign.

Things are quiet on the defender front for Arsenal at the moment, although SunSport revealed their interest in Olympiacos centre-half Pape Abou Cisse earlier this season.
