Wilshere, 24, joined the Cherries on loan in a deadline day move from Arsenal.

Bournemouth agreed to pay the England midfielder's £3million fee and £80,000-a-week wages to land him.

Pal Benik Afobe, who also started the game, said Wilshere was right to join the Cherries to better his future.

He said: "It’s no secret Jack and I get on really well. Our families are big friends. We’ve known each other since I was eight and he was nine – and he is a great lad to have here and hopefully he can help us climb up the league table.

“Some people think Jack has come here only because one of his best friends is here. But he is here because he knows Bournemouth are the right club for him to progress with his future.

“This was a decision he made that was right for his career.

Cummings, who was part of the promotion winning teams of 2003 and 2010, said: "I'm really excited that people have got together to put this game on for me and am hugely grateful to Eddie Howe, Jeff Mostyn and Neill Blake for allowing it to happen.
