Sergio Aguero will miss Manchester derby after appeal against violent conduct charge for elbow on Winston Reid is rejected

SERGIO AGUERO has been found guilty of elbowing West Ham defender Winston Reid in Manchester City's win last weekend - and will miss the upcoming Manchester Derby.

The Argentine striker has been in red-hot form so far this season, but let his guard down when he struck New Zealander Reid in the face when challenging for a high ball and was given a three-game ban.

An FA statement read:"Sergio Aguero will serve a three-match suspension with immediate effect after an FA charge of violent conduct against him was found proven.

"The Manchester City forward was involved in a 76th minute incident with West Ham United’s Winston Reid on Sunday [28 August 2016], which was not seen by the match officials but caught on video.

"The club denied the charge and submitted further that if it was to be found proven, the standard punishment would be clearly excessive.

"On finding the charge proven at a hearing today [Friday 2 September 2016], an Independent Regulatory Commission went on to reject the club’s further claim to decrease the three-match ban."

Referee Andre Marriner took no action at the time of the 76th minute incident and the FA charged Aguero after Marriner confirmed he did not see the incident.

City were hopeful after claiming Marriner must have seen the clash because he was less than five yards away, which would have put Aguero in the clear.
