Sunderland transfer news: Yann M’Vila left ‘heartbroken’ after after deadline-day switch to Black Cats falls through

The French midfielder flew into Heathrow in a bid to tie up a deal - but his Russian club played hard-ball over the fee

YANN M'VILA has described how his 'heart was broken' after his deadline day switch to Sunderland fell through.

The 26-year-old spent last season on loan at the Stadium of Light, and David Moyes was keen to bring the Frenchman back on a permanent deal.

But despite flying in to Heathrow, the paperwork wasn't concluded in time, with Rubin Kazan believed to be playing hard-ball over the transfer fee.

This led M'Vila to post an emotional message on his official Instagram page, saying that he called Sunderland "but they are not picking up the phone".

He then wrote that his "heart has broken".

Despite M'Vila being out of contract in January, it is believed his Russian club were asking for at least £7million for the defensive midfielder.

M’Vila played 36 Premier League games for Sunderland last season, scoring just the one goal.

He has been frozen out at Rubin Kazan, not even being named in their squad for the Russian Premier League season.

It's not all bad news however - the Sunderland Echo have this morning reported that the club have reached an agreement with the player himself to sign in January.

And to further appease fans who were upset that the club failed to bring in M'Vila, Moyes broke the club transfer record to sign Didier Ndong for £16million.
