Chelsea transfer news: Jorge Mendes holds late-night talks over James Rodriguez deadline day transfer

Stamford Bridge outfit are interested in bringing the Colombian midfielder in on deadline day

JAMES RODRIGUEZ'S agent Jorge Mendes held late-night talks with Chelsea on Tuesday, according to reports in Spain.

The Colombian midfielder, 25, had been told earlier this summer by Bernabeu boss Zinedine Zidane he had no future at the club, before the Frenchman made something of a U-turn.

Yet now super-agent Mendes has fuelled the fire regarding a last-ditch move, after he held talks with Roman Abramovich's Blues, according to .

Last night, reports in Spanish paper Marca claimed Madrid have not ruled out selling Rodriguez to Antonio Conte and Co - or team-mate Isco, who is a reported target for Tottenham.

Mauricio Pochettino is hoping to add some Champions League quality to his squad before the transfer window slams shut and sees the Spanish midfielder as a solution as his side compete for both the Premier League and Europe's elite competition.

However, the Blues suffered a minor scare as Zidane revealed he was more than happy to keep hold of Rodriguez and mold him into a player worthy of being a Galactico.

One stumbling block at this stage would appear to be the fee, with Florentino Perez and Co hoping to recoup £60million for the Colombian.

But with Rodriguez's stock tumbling since his starring role at the 2014 World Cup - having been frozen out at the Bernabeu - Chelsea are unwilling to match the astronomic fee.

The Blues have even been working on a part exchange deal which would send Cesc Fabregas the other way - but this time it was Real who snubbed the deal.

Chelsea remain keen however, with Spanish paper El Confidencial claiming Rodriguez is a'player who dazzles Antonio Conte', with the article also eluding to the 'forming [of] a partnership' with Eden Hazard.

With only a matter of hours left before the transfer window slams shut, both parties will need to act quickly if they are to iron out a deal...
