‘I’m starting to tear up’ – Robbie Savage fights back tears on BT Sport as son Charlie, 18, makes his Man Utd debut
AN EMOTIONAL Robbie Savage had the honour of announcing his son's arrival onthe pitch as Charlie Savage made his Manchester United debut.
Savage, 18, was named on the bench against Young Boys and came on in the last five minutes.
Savage Senior was part of BT Sport's commentary team for the match and he admitted he was a nervous wreck watching on.
As the seconds ticked away with his lad still on the sidelines, Savage joked: “Somebody kick the ball out.”
Savage then announced his son's debut, proudly telling viewers: “Coming on for Man Utd, Charlie Savage for Juan Mata.
"I never believed I’d ever say those words for Manchester United. What a proud day for my boy after all the hard work.
"What a day for me, his mother, nanna, his grandparents but most importantly for that boy there Charlie Savage.
"So proud of him, it’s just an amazing moment for him – coming on for a World Cup winner.

"I'm a nervous wreck.”
"He's never been top of the group, he's always had to meet targets.
"Every two years when he was on the borderline of being let go, his application, his work ethic, his desire, he's humble. That has got him to where he's got.
"As a father, when I'm standing on the sidelines, people automatically think Charlie is going to be like his dad but he's not like me, he's his own player.
"At times it's been harder so what he's achieved in his young life, I'm absolutely delighted.
"It's amazing what the boy's achieved.
"I've opened no doors for him, he's done it on his own through his work ethic. I'm absolutely thrilled for him."
Rio Ferdinand and the punditry team also admitted to feeling emotional, before the former United defender jokingly asked Savage: "Beautiful words, what does it feeel like for yourself Robbie, if he gets on, to eclipse anything you achieved in your career."

Savage acknowledged the fact Charlie has achieved something he failed to do - make the bench as a United player.
The BT Sport pundit was part of the Class of 92 but was released without ever being included in a matchday squad.
