A report from states that sources have told them Reds boss Jurgen Klopp sees the former Burnley strike ace as a big part of his plans as the season moves forward.

Ings moved to Burnley for £8million at the beginning of last season only to tear his cruciate knee ligaments in Klopp's first training session at the club - leading to stinging criticism from new Inter boss Frank de Boer.

At it meant that he missed an astonishing 50 Reds matches across all competition before making his comeback on the final day of the season in a 1-1 draw at West Brom.

Klopp has offloaded Christian Benteke to Crystal Palace in a £32m deal and is now short of out-and-out strikers.

His preference appears to be a pacy front three interchanging positions, with Sadio Mane, Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino getting the nod for the 1-1 draw at Tottenham.

But the likes of Ings and benched frontman Daniel Sturridge could be in for a run as the season wears on and injuries and suspensions kick in.

Both are currently behind Divock Origi in Klopp's pecking order, with the Belgium forward getting on at White Hart Lane almost 20 minutes ahead of England man Sturridge.

Earlier this month Klopp said: "We're counting on Ingsy. He is a fantastic boy.

"He was injured since October last year and he needed time. Now he's getting better and better."
