Everton fans fume as Richarlison has TWO goals ruled out for offside by matter of millimetres

EVERTON fans were fuming at two marginal offside calls that both went against Richarlison.

The Brazilian striker was denied twice by VAR during Monday's clash with Arsenal at Goodison Park.

Richarlison rose highest to direct a wonderful header beyond Aaron Ramsdale in the final minute of the first half.

But VAR intervened and the goal was disallowed - despite Richarlison appearing to be level with Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu.

The Toffees' misery was compounded just moments later, when the Gunners took the lead.

With just seconds remaining of the two additional minutes, Martin Odegaard swept home Kieran Tierney's brilliant cross to put Arsenal ahead.

On the disallowed Richarlison goal, one fan fumed: "Got screwed by var."

While another moaned: "We have the worst luck."

A third lamented: "What do you know. Yet another goal disallowed because they draw the line from a part of the body that, if we’re used in the goal or build up to the goal, would be disallowed as a hand ball. Such a joke."

Supporters were then left enraged again, when Richarlison had another effort chalked off for being a TOENAIL offside.

Richarlison thought he brought Everton level in the 57th minute, only for VAR to intervene again.

On social media, one fan wrote: "Someone doing VAR is clearly an Arsenal fan.";

Another added: "Again. Worst luck. Pure insanity."

Former Premier League referee Mark Halsey believed fans were right to feel hard done by.

He told SunSport: "Everton were extremely unlucky when Richarlison had a 57th minute strike ruled out for offside.

"I know offside is factual but should we really be chalking off goals for something as tight as that?

"Richarlison’s toe was deemed to be slightly off but both the Everton striker and Gabriel both looked like they had their feet on the 18-yard line of the penalty area.

"Surely when it is as tight as that we should give the benefit to the attacker."

Fortunately for Everton, it didn't cost them thanks to their stirring late comeback.

Richarlison dragged Everton level when he headed in the rebound after Demarai Gray's strike crashed against the bar.

And Gray scored a stunning winner in injury time from 20 yards to give Rafa Benitez's side a much-needed three points.
