ROBERT LEWANDOWSKI scored twice as Bayern Munich moved four points clear at the top of the Bundesliga with a thrilling 3-2 win over Borussia Dortmund in Der Klassiker.

Dortmund took the lead after just five minutes when England international Jude Bellingham looped a delightful ball in for Julian Brandt to bring down and lash home.

But the hosts' lead lasted just four minutes as Lewandowski - hot off the heels from his Ballon d'Or disappointment - levelled things up.

Thomas Muller charged down Mats Hummels' lazy clipped pass before the Polish striker gathered up the loose ball to clinically fire into the bottom corner.

That goal takes Lewandowski to 26 goals for the season from just 21 games.

Bayern got their noses in front on the stroke of half-time when another defensive mix-up in the Dortmund back line allowed Kingsley Coman to fire beyond keeper Gregor Kobel via a deflection off Hummels.

Dortmund hit back three minutes into the second half when Bellingham once again turned the provider, laying it off for Erling Haaland to sumptuously curl home a delightful equaliser - his 14th this season.

The home side then pressed for a winner but failed to find a route through Bayern's shaky defence.

And Dortmund were made to pay 13 minutes for time when Hummels - who had a nightmare evening - allowed the ball to strike his raised arm in the box and the referee pointed to the spot.

Lewandowski kept his composure to tuck away the penalty for his 27th of the campaign despite Kobel getting his hands on the ball.

Dortmund manager Marco Rose was then sent off for a second yellow card after remonstrating with the officials about the awarding of the penalty.

Tempers flared as Bellingham was booked for a shove on Manuel Neuer as Dortmund grew frustrated.

But the reigning Bundesliga champions kept their cool to see out the game and move clear of their German rivals at the top of the table.
