BARCELONA are reportedly ready to swoop for Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta.

The Spaniard has not featured in the Premier League since mid-October, mainly because of Reece James’ excellent form down Chelsea’s right side and Thomas Tuchel's continued faith in Trevoh Chalobah in defence.

And while SunSport exclusively revealed he is relishing the battle with Reece James for the right wing-back spot, he is yet to agree a new contract with the Blues.

Spanish newspaper reports that while Chelsea are confident of agreeing a new deal with the player, Barca are 'keen try and sign him'.

And according to , Barca are keeping a keen eye on how contract talks progress between the Blues and club captain Azpilicueta.

The 32-year-old club captain's current deal at Stamford Bridge runs out at the end of the season.

If a new deal has not been agreed before January 1 the Spaniard is free to begin talks with foreign clubs regarding a pre-contract agreement.

The Blues though are thought to be keen to tie him down to a new deal and extend his stay at the club with talks currently ongoing between club chiefs and Azpilicueta's representatives.

But he could decide to run down his contract and pursue a new challenge after NINE years at the club.

Barcelona, now managed by club legend Xavi, are undergoing a huge rebuild after their finances were decimated and Lionel Messi was allowed to leave.

They have also reportedly offered Philippe Coutinho to Manchester United in the hope of signing Anthony Martial and Edinson Cavani.

According to Spanish publication , Barcelona chiefs flew to Manchester and asked United 'about several footballers', namely Martial and Cavani.

There were also discussions with Pep Guardiola's City for Ferran Torres, with Coutinho being offered as a makeweight in all discussions.
