England squad: West Ham winger Michail Antonio gets shock call-up for Sam Allardyce’s first game as Three Lions boss

Midfielder named in 23-man group for World Cup qualifier with Slovakia as Manchester City outcast Joe Hart keeps place

MICHAIL ANTONIO is a surprise call-up in Sam Allardyce's first England squad.

The West Ham midfielder - who began his career at non-league Tooting and Mitcham - is named in the 23-man group for next week's World Cup qualifier with Slovakia.

Antonio, 26, netted in the Hammers' 3-1 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday.

Allardyce to the FA website: "I think he's in outstanding form.

"This is another lad with a great journey - it's a fantastic journey that he's been on, from non-league to now an international call-up.

Joe Hart has retained his Three Lions place despite his City axe - and is likely to start in goal in Trnava.

Arsenal's Theo Walcott and Leicester's Danny Drinkwater are recalled, having failed to make the cut at Euro 2016.

But Gunners ace Jack Wilshere - who was controversially handed a seat on the plane to France by former boss Roy Hodgson - misses out.

Everton captain Phil Jagielka has been selected, but club-mate Ross Barkley is a notable absentee.

Wayne Rooney, who will continue as captain under Allardyce, has been included among the midfielders.

Manchester United team-mate Marcus Rashford was dropped to the Under-21s last week.
