Sunderland suffer major injury blow as keeper Vito Mannone is ruled out for three months
DAVID MOYES to step up search for a new shotstopper after No1 injures elbow in training
SUNDERLAND have been dealt a major injury blow as Vito Mannone was ruled out for three months with an elbow injury.
The goalkeeper was hurt in training on Tuesday and has undergone a number of tests.
Doctors must now decide whether the Italian needs an operation.
The news is a bitter pill to swallow for Sunderland boss David Moyes, who is desperately trying to recruit defenders to bolster his backline.
Moyes said “It is a serious one and we will assess what to do.
“We will have to bring a keeper in but we are working in other areas too.”
Moyes must now turn to England Under 21 keeper Jordan Pickford for this weekend’s trip to Southampton while he will aim to bring in an emergency keeper before next week’s transfer deadline.
