PORTUGAL travel to Ireland for their World Cup 2022 qualifying clash in Dublin TONIGHT.

The Irish have already been eliminated from advancing from the group and will not be progressing to the Qatar World Cup next year.

  • IRELAND 0-0 PORTUGAL

    65. Duffy shadows the ball out of play for a goalkick, leaving substitute Rafael Leao on his backside for good measure.

After his annus horribilis at Celtic last term, the centre-back's redemption for club and country really has been quite something.

  • IRELAND 0-0 PORTUGAL

    63. Nelson Semedo catches Callum Robinson with a high boot. It's Wolves versus West Brom, what do you expect?

  • IRELAND 0-0 PORTUGAL

    60. The Irish make a change of their own.

Young Adam Idah is introduced into the action, and he will join the home attack in place of Jamie McGrath.

  • IRELAND 0-0 PORTUGAL

    58. It's time for Portugal to freshen things up.

Fernando Santo sends on veteran midfielder Joao Moutinho and forward Rafael Leao. Off go Matheus Nunes and Goncalo Guedes.

  • IRELAND 0-0 PORTUGAL

    57. Ronaldo crashes the free-kick into Duffy in the Ireland wall. The Portugal captain is convinced the centre-half has used his arm, but nobody else buys into the suggestion.

  • IRELAND 0-0 PORTUGAL

    56. Frustration for Seamus Coleman, who has watched Portugal players escape yellow cards for cynical fouls this half. The Ireland captain isn't almost as lucky, and finds himself booked for a late challenge on Andre Silva.

It's a free-kick to Portugal 30 yards from goal, and you know who stands over it.

  • IRELAND 0-0 PORTUGAL

    54. Portugal get away with one!

Matheus Nunes dribbles back into his own box to cover, only to slip on the turn and present the ball to Ogbene. The angle is against the striker, so instead he tees up Cullen outside the area, who sends a first time curler into the hands of Rui Patricio.

It's a missed opportunity for Ireland, and Robinson shows it in his reaction. He feels that the pass should have come to him instead.

  • IRELAND 0-0 PORTUGAL

    53. Ogbene and Danilo are it again, and this time the Ireland striker wins a free-kick down the corner flag after beating his man for pace.

    Rotherham 1 PSG 0.

  • IRELAND 0-0 PORTUGAL

    51. Goncalo Guedes attempts to turn his way past Stevens, but is stopped in his tracks by a brilliant block tackle by the Sheffield United man.

It almost gets better for the Irish when Ogbene chases the clearance upfield, only for Danilo to intervene when needed most.

  • IRELAND 0-0 PORTUGAL

    48. Ronaldo takes another couple of whacks, this time Coleman and then Cullen.

The Manchester United forward is going to black and blue by the time he returns to his club after the international break.

Still, the home fans here are loving it.

  • IRELAND 0-0 PORTUGAL

    46. The officials look particularly pleased with themselves as they return to the field, laughing and high-fiving their way up the tunnel. It's particularly peculiar behaviour considering how poor they were in the first half.

Still, never mind them, let's talk about Ogbene, who collects the ball from kick-off and sets about charging through the Portugal midfield. Driving towards the box, the striker is only stopped by a cynical pull back by Joao Palhinha.

Somehow the Sporting midfielder escapes a booking.

  • PEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!
    BACK AT IT IN DUBLIN!

  • HALF-TIME STATS

Four corners and one shot on target apiece although it's Portugal's slow build-up play that has dominated the ball in Dublin.

  • HT: IRELAND 0-0 PORTUGAL

No goals and little in the way of goalscoring opportunities. Chiedozie Ogbene flashed Ireland's best opening wide of the near post late in the half, while Portugal have failed to create much beyond a couple of blocked Cristiano Ronaldo shots.

  • PEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!
    IT'S HALF-TIME AT THE AVIVA!

  • IRELAND 0-0 PORTUGAL

    45. The fourth official's board goes up to signal two minutes stoppage time at the end of this first half.

This is around the point in proceedings that the Boys in Green took the lead in Portugal, but this match looks certain to head in all square at half-time.

  • IRELAND 0-0 PORTUGAL

    44. Chance! Ogbene gets ahead of his man to meet Robinson's cross from the left, but heads wide.

The Rotherham striker could have - perhaps should have - marked his first international start with a goal.

  • IRELAND 0-0 PORTUGAL

    42. Robinson shows off his tricks 35 yards from goal, and wins a free-kick from Matheus Nunes.

It's Ireland's CR7 that is beginning to shine as the half draws to a close.

  • IRELAND 0-0 PORTUGAL

    40. Another Ireland corner that co...oh, you know the drill.

However, this time Portugal almost punish them on the break. Ronaldo brings it forward on the left and attempts to switch play to the unmarked Goncalo Guedes on the right, a feat he would have undoubtedly achieved if his pass hadn't have crashed into Andre Silva.

  • IRELAND 0-0 PORTUGAL

    39. Another Ireland corner than comes to nothing.

  • IRELAND 0-0 PORTUGAL

    37. Another Portugal corner that comes to nothing.

  • IRELAND 0-0 PORTUGAL

    35. Bazunu collides with one of his defenders in his attempts to clear Portugal's latest corner.

The teenage stopper gets enough on the ball to divert the danger, but may want to work on his communication before one of these set-pieces ends up in the back of his net.

  • IRELAND 0-0 PORTUGAL

    33. Egan gets on the end of McGrath's corner, but there will be no repeat of his opening goal in the Algarve. Yet.

  • IRELAND 0-0 PORTUGAL

    30. It's still goalless with half hour on the clock. There's been plenty of endeavour on display but not much in the way of goalmouth action.

  • IRELAND 0-0 PORTUGAL

    28. Ogbene becomes the first player to be cautioned this evening for being culpable of...

    ...well, absolutely nothing actually.

The Rotherham striker does well to hold off Danilo on the near touchline with a show of strength that sends the defender crashing to the turf, and rolling around as if taken out in the first episode of Squid Game.

It's a horrendous over-reaction from the PSG man, but leaves the home striker on a booking.
