Champions League round-up: Roma down to nine men as they implode against Porto while Monaco eliminate Villarreal with 1-0 victory
Daniele De Rossi and and replacement Emerson Palmieri saw red for horror tackles as Giallorossi were hammered at home
ROMA captain Daniele De Rossi badly let his team-mates down as he was sent for an early bath following a horror challenge on Porto's Maxi Pereira in the first-half.
The Serie A giants had taken a 1-1 draw back from Portugal and were expected to see the game out and reach the Champions League group stage.
However, already trailing to Felipe's early opener, Roma's task was made even harder when De Rossi was given his marching orders for a shocking challenge.
The Italian had clashed with Pereira at the end of the first leg — and the tackle may have been some sort of retribution.
Despite being a central midfielder by trade, De Rossi had been forced to fill in at centre-half due to an injury crisis.
