Sexual assault investigation that threatened Manchester United star David De Gea’s career set to end with no court action

MANCHESTER UNITED goalkeeper David De Gea will face no further action over the sexual assault allegations that almost rocked Spain’s Euro 2016 campaign.

Days before the French tournament, news broke that an unnamed prostitute was accusing the Premier League star of setting-up a meeting with two friends and fellow players who then assaulted her – allegations the Old Trafford No1 fiercely denied throughout.

Athletic Bilbao forward Iker Muniain and an unidentified Premier League Spanish player were accused of meeting the hooker in Madrid's five-star Hotel Urban in 2012 after De Gea had paid for and planned the alleged orgy.

There was uproar in Spain with legendary boss Vicente Del Bosque coming under pressure to send the ‘keeper home from the national side’s training base. But the experienced manager believed his player’s detailed and unwavering denial and played his first choice throughout the tournament.

De Gea even demanded a press conference to address the relentless rumours that were rife on social media and across news outlets in Spain.

The 25-year-old said: “I want to refute these allegations. These are lies and mistruths. The matter remains in the hands of my lawyers. It is all false.”

And now, respected Spanish paper Interviu has claimed the case in all but over due to a dismal lack of evidence from the woman at the centre of the storm.

The police and judge spearheading the case reportedly believe the sexual encounter was voluntary and that the players will not be interviewed by investigators.

The accuser – known in the investigation as TP3 – is deemed to be an unreliable witness after a number of suspicious irregularities.

Interviu claim she only named the footballers in her second statement, she tried to cash-in on her allegedly horrific ordeal by selling her story to at least two Spanish media outlets and she swapped good-natured messages with the footballer’s just days after the alleged incident.

Crucially, when the female was trying to sell her story to the news companies she was painting the picture of a consensual orgy with no violence or the threat of any.

De Gea – who has not let the off-field distraction harm him with two wins from two in the Premier League so far – constantly denied all the allegations and stuck to his story.

The former Atletico Madrid man has never even been questioned over the alleged liaison – that he was at no point accused of attending – and it appears the entire affair will now be concluded.

De Gea’s girlfriend Edurne Garcia stuck by her man during the tournament and the stopped is believed to still be dating the singer and TV presenter.
