Solskjaer facing sack if Man Utd flop against Tottenham this weekend as Sir Alex Ferguson holds emergency board talks

SIR ALEX FERGUSON has held emergency talks over the future of under-fire Ole Gunnar Solskjaer — who is safe for now.

Despite the 5-0 battering by bitter rivals Liverpool at the weekend, Manchester United boss Solskjaer is set to stay in charge for Saturday’s Premier League trip to Tottenham.

Former United boss Fergie was among a group of leading figures who discussed how to sort out the mess at Old Trafford.

Group managing director Richard Arnold, who is expected to replace executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward, .

It is understood Solskjaer will remain in the job this week — but another damaging defeat by Spurs could change that.

SunSport yesterday revealed how a leading agent has already been contacted to sound out possible replacements, with Zinedine Zidane, Antonio Conte, Brendan Rodgers and Erik ten Hag on the shortlist.

Arnold is on a mission to discover what has gone wrong on the pitch after starting to take on some of Woodward’s responsibilities.

There are fears within the club that the atmosphere at training has become flat, with players uninspired by the coaching sessions.

Internal divisions within the squad are growing and it is understood several big names are losing faith with Solskjaer.

Arnold is understood to have spoken to both Ferguson and former chief executive Gill earlier in the day on the subject of the manager’s position.

Fergie and ex-chairman Martin Edwards were seen heading to the training ground later on but that was understood to be for a pre-arranged appointment over sponsorship.
