Manchester United 2 Southampton 0: Zlatan Ibrahimovic steals the show from Paul Pogba as Jose Mourinho gets first home win as United boss
United cruise to victory over lacklustre Saints as Swede turns on the style with goals either side of half time
ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC struck a brace as Jose Mourinho recorded a comfortable first home win as Manchester United boss.
There was a start for record signing Paul Pogba but it was the giant Swede who stole the show with goals either side of half time.
First he rose highest to power United ahead, heading firmly past Fraser Forster shortly before the break after a period of sustained pressure.
And shortly after the restart former Saints full-back Luke Shaw went down in the box - with Ibra coolly smashing home his second.
Pogba looked assured and dictated play through the middle - and could've scored himself with an early deflected effort as the Old Trafford crowd cheered his every touch.
Saints threatened in flurries and Shane Long had a header ruled out for offside, but it was a comfortable first victory for Jose's men which maintains their 100 percent winning start.
FACTS, STATS, GOALS AND LOLS
1: Zlatan Ibrahimovic arrived at Manchester United with 12 domestic titles in 14 years. After his two goals against Claude Puel’s men it seems quite possible that he will add to his tally.
2: This fixture last season saw the crowd turn poisonous against Louis van Gaal. It was completely different in this match as fans were loving the action.
3: The new United was shown in the first half when Paul Pogba carried the ball forward and linked up well with Luke Shaw and Ibrahimovic.
4: Don’t forget about Wayne Rooney. His cross for Zlatan’s first was superb and it was a decent display in the No10 role.
5: “Sit down Mourinho” is the shout from opposition supporters. But Untied fans have taken it on themselves too. Better than LVG sat on his backside for 90 minutes.
6: Bastian Schweinstieger is in exile and wasn’t even in the directors box tweeting a picture of himself and a good luck message from the back of the south stand.
9: Luke Shaw looked great going forward and won the penalty – but it will be a concern that there were gaps on his flank.
10: So much for Juan Mata heading for the Old Trafford exit door – he started again ahead of big-money summer signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

WHAT THEY SAID
Jose Mourinho on his team's start to the season: “The way we are playing, the kind of football we are trying to play, sometimes we don’t but we always try to do that kind of football. The way the team defends because it is now zonal which is much more difficult.
"[It is] evolution, step by step. Some players like Paul, others who have been [here] two weeks, three weeks, four weeks, they were arriving step by step.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic: "We’re happy for the three points, we need to settle in, the rest will come.
“The way we play, the simple things, inside and outside the pitch.
“We need to know the philosophy of the coach. Everything is new – like a big puzzle!"
