Manchester United vs Southampton Premier League LIVE: Jose Mourinho set for home bow with Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic set to feature

£109million-man Paul Pogba set for second debut, while Jose Mourinho, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Eric Bailly and Henrikh Mkhitaryan all set to make first Old Trafford appearance

MANCHESTER UNITED host Southampton in the weekend's first kick-off... On Friday night.

For only the ninth time in history - mostly made up of Boxing Day clashes - the Premier League will see some end-of-work-week action at Old Trafford.

And it looks set to be a cracker... Here are just a few of the major talking points.

9.55: That was a fun FNF wasn't it? Don't forget, you can see match highlights including clips of Zlatan's double on the Sun GOALS app. Meantime, we'll see you back here tomorrow for more live Premier League action. Goodnight!

9.54: It was a comfortable night for United who swatted Southampton aside without ever hitting the heights. The good news is that Zlatan and Pogba looked very tasty indeed. So two wins in two for Jose Mourinho - whisper it quietly, but United appear to be back.

9.52: FULL TIME: MAN UTD 2 SOUTHAMPTON 0

9.50: But it's Pogba who goes mighty close to claiming United's third, slamming a lazy sidefooter a yard wide. I could have done with that going in - he's in my Dream Team

9.48: Man of the Match Ibrahimovic has got three added minutes to claim a Zlatrick.

9.46: United look content to sit back and invite the Saints onto them. But with two minutes to go, Wayne Rooney is replaced by Mike Smalling's brother, Chris. Operation Shutdown in full effect.

9.44: United replace the tiring Martial with Herrera while Southampton pull off ShLong in favour of Jay Rodriguez. Five minutes for the Saints to find an unlikely way back into this

9.40: I should point out that Claude Puel hasn’t always looked like Adam Sandler’s dad…

9.38: On the touchline, Saints boss Claude Puel is busy waving his arms around like a nutter at the bus stop. The jist of it seems to be, 'Do football better'.

9.34: 15 minutes remain - just time for Jose to publicly humiliate Juan Mata by hooking him again. He's replaced by Henrikh Mkhitaryan

9.32: Saints have realised it's do or die as they start to up the tempo. They're probing and pressing as Giggsy might hope to with Rachel Riley later but the United defence is holding firm

9.27: The Saints make a switch with Charlie Austin coming on for Steven Davis. If they could snaffle one back, we'd be in for a ding-dong last 20 minutes

9.22: CHANCE! Pogba so nearly gets himself on the scoresheet, rising impressively from a corner but powering his close range header over the bar. Martial then nearly adds the third but as he closes in on goal, Saints close ranks and snuff out the chance. Meanwhile Ibrahimovic, who was in acres of space, looks none to pleased with the Frenchman. He fancies the season's first Zlatrick!

9.16: Chance for the Saints to hit straight back but after a rare touch from Fellaini, Redmond shanks his close range effort well wide.

9.13: Apologies if you followed my advice and lumped on Southampton to win this game. With 35 minutes still to go, they'll be lucky to keep this respectable now

MANCHESTER UNITED 2 SOUTHAMPTON 0

9.11: GOOOOAALLLLL!!! ZLATAN steps up and fires low and emphatically into the corner, sending the keeper the wrong way. The big fella's on a hat-trick!

9.09: PENALTY TO UNITED!! Clasie clumsily trips Shaw and that's a stonewall pen...

9.07: GOOAA-no, offside! It's a delightful passing movement from the Saints that ends with Tadic neatly flicking the ball into the net. Alas, it's ruled out for offside and United are off the hook.

9.05: Don't forget, you can watch all the first half highlights and Zlatan's towering header on the Sun Goals app - for free! All of the action, none of the guff from Giggsy. 'Appy days!

9.03: PEEEEP! Southampton get us back underway, kicking right to left

9.02: By the way, I do hope Sky Sports’ presenter Rachel Riley takes a leaf out of Lineker’s book and pledges to present the show in her pants if United win the league. Seems only fair.

9.00: Must admit I quite like this Friday night football lark. Or as Sky would have us call it, FNF. Though if you’re a Saints fan who’s got to get home from Manchester tonight, it’s more FFS.

8.51: A very satisfactory half for United. Their new signings have bedded in well with Pogba looking assured in the middle and Ibrahimovic a constant threat. Southampton looked dangerous on the break - a bit more belief and I'm still convinced they can poop all over the party. As it were.

8.47: HALF TIME: MAN UTD 1 SOUTHAMPTON 0

8.44: CHANCE! The ball's played back to Steve Davies on the edge of the box who plants his shot (sorry) into the top corner. Of the stand. Got to hit the target from there!

8.42: Ibrahimovic is going to tear this league up isn’t he? Man, that truly was a majestic header. But a tad harsh on the Saints who had looked good value up until then. Five minutes to half time.

It just had to be HIM! Or to be more precise, IbraHIMovic. Rooney does brilliantly on the right and pings over a tempting cross for the big Swede to batter a towering downward header into the net from 10 yards. Ya beauty!!

8.36: GOOOOAAALLLL!!! MAN UTD 1 SOUTHAMPTON 0

8.33: CHANCE! Wowzers, this is a let off for United. Tadic slides in Shane Long who goes clear through on goal only to scuff a daisy-cutter that fairly trickles into De Gea's hands. That was more Shame Long. Put your foot through it son!

8.30: United are starting to go through the gears. First Mata's cushioned header sees Zlatan acrobatically hook over the bar before Mata does superbly again to pick out the big man, but his dangerous cross is deflected out of Rooney's path.

8.26: Hello. Shane Long fancies his chances and swivels to rifle an effort that arrows into the side netting. By the way, anyone else disturbed by Southampton's shorts? They're horrible grey things that make them look like they're playing in their grundies. Nasty.

8.19: CLOSE! Great breakaway from the Saints as Redmond gets in behind and whips a cross in that's just a fraction too high for Tadic at the far post. A foot lower and that would have been the opener.

8.17: A couple of classy touches from Pogba and a neat 40 yard pinger so nearly get Zlatan away. Not sure about his white hair though. Looks like he's been painting a ceiling all day.

8.13: SHOT! And oh so nearly a dream start for Pogba as the Frenchman curls a tasty right footer from the corner of the box that Forster has to gather smartly.

8.10: Here's a big blow for the Saints as Oriol Romeu is forced to hobble off after going down in the centre circle. He's replaced by Jordy Clasie

8.06: Better from Pogba, who tries to play Zlatan in but the Swede's regal hooter had just strayed offside.

8.05: Nice confident start by the Saints, taking the early sting out of the game. By the way, your referee tonight is Anthony (don’t call me ‘Tony’) Taylor

8.01: Pogba's first contribution is a woeful swipe at thin air. Heck of an £89m air swipe, though.

8.00: PEEEEP! United get us underway. Bet United fans are gutted that the ball no longer needs to be moved forward at kick off. It was the only forward pass they made last year.

7.57: Righto, the players are on their way out! Zlatan struts out into the Old Trafford stadium like he owns the place. Love the way he completely blanks mascot, Fred the Red. Classy.

7.56: Check that woeful Rooney resemblance. Ha!

7.45: The person I feel really sorry for is Marcus Rashford. He's not going to get a look in this season is he? I guarantee he'll be on loan at Sunderland by January.

7.41: Sky are so obsessed with Pogba, Zlatan and Jose, they've barely mentioned Southampton. But I've got a real feeling the Saints are going to be party poopers tonight. I'm tipping them to sneak a 0-1 win. Mystic Wray has spoken. Get on it!

7.36: I still can’t get used to Rachel Riley and Jeff Stelling presenting Sky’s coverage of this game. Bet your life BT try and copy it, and launch Thursday Night Football with Robbie Savage and Stephen Hawking

7.32: FACT ME! Southampton have recorded 1-0 wins on each of their last two visits to Old Trafford.

7.29: If you're having a little Friday night wager with Sun Bets, here's your need to know...

United are unbeaten at home since losing to Southampton in January, a run of 11 matches in league and cup (W8, D3).

7.23: Hmmm. Tough one. I didn’t get it but for what it’s worth, I did make ‘a vaginal soul’ out of Louis van Gaal.

LOUISVANGAALISATAWT

7.20: With Jeff and Rachel Riley in the Sky studio, it’s like watching an old episode of Countdown. So let’s have us a Friday night Countdown Conundrum. Fingers on buzzers, here it comes…..

7.15: What do you make of Sky Sports’ new Friday night show? Have you noticed, Jeff and all the boys are in open-necked shirts, just to reinforce that it's dress down Friday and they're all kicking back. To be honest, it makes me feel a little bit sick.

7.10: Southampton make two changes as Pierre Hojbjerg makes his first start, replacing James Ward-Prowse. Jose Fonte is also in for Maya Yoshida...Southampton: Forster, Cedric, Fonte, Van Dijk, Targett, Romeu, Hojbjerg, Davis, Tadic, Redmond, Long

Subs: McCarthy, Yoshida, Clasie, Rodriguez, Austin, Ward-Prowse, Pied

7.05: Let's get straight to the team news. And the big news for United is that £89m Paul Pogba starts, replacing Ander Herrera. Man United: De Gea, Valencia, Bailly, Blind, Shaw, Fellaini, Pogba, Mata, Rooney, Martial, Ibrahimovic

Subs: Romero, Smalling, Herrera, Mkhitaryan, Schneiderlin, Young, Rashford

7.03: Evening all! Good choice. With only a ladies hockey match and Shed Of The Year on the telly tonight, you’ve come to the right place – the first Friday night football of the season!
