Italy to play Argentina in first ever Copa EuroAmerica showdown clash between Euros winner and South American champions

EURO 2020 champions Italy will play Copa America winners Argentina in the first ever Copa EuroAmerica clash.

Uefa announced the match will take place next June and is another step towards closer collaboration between the European governing body and CONMEBOL.

The exact date and location of the game is yet to be confirmed.

Napoli's Diego Maradona stadium is said to be in the running to host the inaugural fixture.

Both Uefa and CONMEBOL hit out at Fifa's recent plans to hold bi-annual World Cups and the two bodies are expected to work closer together in the coming years.

Uefa confirmed an agreement has been struck for three fixtures of this nature - including next June's.

A joint office in London will also be opened in order to work on future projects.

Uefa said: "By reaching this agreement, Uefa and CONMEBOL express their commitment to the development of football beyond their geographical zones, as a bridge uniting people, countries, continents and cultures.

"The Uefa executive committee and the CONMEBOL council also expressed a strong willingness to continue collaborating on other issues of mutual interest going forward."
