Wayne Rooney will not be offered a new Manchester United deal for at least 18 months and must prove he is worth rise on £300,000-a-week wages
Jose Mourinho believes captain, who is under contract until summer 2019, still has plenty to offer the club
WAYNE ROONEY will not be offered a contract extension by Manchester United for at least another 18 months, SunSport understands.
The England captain's current contract runs until the summer of 2019 and he is aiming to end his playing career at Old Trafford.
But United chiefs are reluctant on offering him new terms along with a pay-rise and he must prove he is worth an increase on his £300,000-a-week wages.
An Old Trafford insider said: “Rooney is ready to end his playing days at United. He is presently contracted until the summer of 2019, but nothing is in the pipeline.
“It will be at least another 16 to 18 months or so before they even make a further look on an extension on that.”
Rooney – who has been at United for 12 years – signed a new five-and-a-half year contract in February 2014.
