GARY NEVILLE made his return to Monday Night Football, and he was given one hell of a grilling.

A lot has changed for the former Manchester United defender since his last appearance on the show midway through last season.

Neville left Sky Sports to take on a career in management with Valencia in Spain, but to say it didn't work out would be putting it mildly.

The 41-year-old was dismissed after just four months at the La Liga club, and he was also part of England's Euro 2016 disaster when they were eliminated by Iceland in the last 16.

But Neville was back on television screens for Chelsea's clash with West Ham and he was back under the microscope, not just from his sparring partner Jamie Carragher, but also the viewers.

Neville was asked all about his time at Valencia and what it was like losing 7-0 to Barcelona.

The pundit used the opportunity to have a jibe at Carragher, saying that that moment "was the worst I felt since I was told Carragher was coming to Sky."

The ex-United defender was also asked about England's embarrassing loss to Iceland in France this summer, where he was part of Roy Hodgson's back-room team.

When the questions then turned to former Liverpool defender Carragher, Neville urged him to consider a career in management at some point.

Neville said: "I keep telling him (Carragher) that he should go and do his badges because one day he might get bored of sitting here on television.

"He's got the right type of brain for it and application. I was getting to the point where I felt I needed to get out of this chair and he might too."

Carragher's response was to, of course, take another shot at Neville.

The ex-Liverpool man said: "The problem is I'm as damaged goods as him (Neville) by association with him.

"No pundit will ever get a job in management - we're knackered."

It's good to have the two of them back together again.
