CHELSEA are one step closer to re-signing Romelu Lukaku - as Everton identify Charlie Austin as his replacement, according to reports.

The Toffees are considering a move for Southampton striker Austin, 27, and another centre-forward, which would free up an exit for Lukaku.

Goodison boss Ronald Koeman signed Austin for £4million in January and would relish a reunion at his new club, reports the .

Austin has started just two league games since moving to St Mary's and risks being forgotten about by new gaffer Claude Puel.

The former QPR forward caught the eye of several top clubs before moving to Saints, scoring 45 goals in 75 starts for the Hoops.
