Barcelona finally register Sergio Aguero on transfer deadline day as Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba take pay cuts
BARCELONA have finally registered new striker Sergio Aguero after Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba agreed to take pay cuts.
The cash-strapped LaLiga side needed two of their biggest earners to drop their respective salaries to afford the Manchester City legend.
Barca signed the former Premier League forward, 33, in May but were unable to register him due to financial fair play rules.
Catalan icon Gerard Pique recently took a pay cut to allow the club to register fellow newcomers Memphis Depay, Eric Garcia and Rey Manaj.
Barca delayed registering Aguero after the player picked up a muscle injury, rulling him out of action until November.
The club announced in an official statement: "The salary reductions for Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, two of the four first-team captains, signed this Tuesday have allowed FC Barcelona to achieve two objectives.
"The registration of Sergio Aguero with the Spanish Football League and to extend the club's limit with regards to Financial Fair Play regulations.
"Sergio and Jordi Alba have agreed to changes in the financial terms of their contracts which included a wage reduction for this season and the deferment of payments for the remaining years.

"The gesture from the two players comes after the agreement recently signed by Gerard Pique which also allowed his team-mates Memphis, Eric Garcia and Rey Manaj to be registered with the league.
"As such, FC Barcelona has completed the registration of its players with the LFP."
Barca will need Aguero back in action quickly as they're currently relying on Depay, Martin Braithwaite and Antoine Griezmann up front.
And they could still lose Griezmann before the end of the transfer window, with the Frenchman reportedly in talks with Atletico over a return.
It's believed Barca are planning on replacing Griezmann with Newcastle flop and current Sevilla star Luuk de Jong in a shock transfer.
The Spanish giants have already lost club legend Lionel Messi to Paris Saint-Germain this summer as they try to recover from a financial nightmare.
