How Flamengo could line up with group of ex-Prem players including Man Utd’s Pereira as David Luiz closes on transfer
BRAZILIAN side Flamengo have dipped into the Premier League market to bolster their squad this summer.
The Brazilian Serie A champions have signed Chelsea winger Kenedy on loan.
And they have also managed to bring in 25-year-old Andreas Pereira on a shock loan move from Manchester United.
But Flamengo - who have won the Serie A the last two seasons in a row - have now decided they need to bring in an old but wise player through the door in David Luiz.
According to Brazilian news outlet the club have made contact with Luiz’s representatives.
The ex-Chelsea ace, who made 213 Prem appearances between 2011 and 2021, is currently a free agent following the expiration of his Arsenal contract this summer.
Reports say Luiz has had meetings with Flamengo’s football director Bruno Spindel and vice president Marcos Braz.
And the financial details of a contract have already been agreed upon.

However, it is thought Luiz, who is currently residing in Brazil, wants to have more time to weigh up his options.
Bringing in the Premier League and Champions League-winning defender would be a massive coup for the Rio de Janeiro-based club.
And one player who will play next to him in the back four is former Premier League-winning Chelsea defender Felipe Luis.
The left-back joined Flamengo back in 2019 after a four-year second spell at Spanish giants Atletico Madrid.
Flamengo's possible line-up for the 2021-22 season would have a mixture of young and old.
A recognisable name in Gabriel Barbosa will be leading the line.
The 24-year-old striker was once regarded as one of the hottest talents on the planet.
But a failed spell at Italian giants Inter Milan killed his momentum in Europe.
He has since rediscovered his form in Brazil and has been linked with a move to David Moyes' West Ham.
The Brazilian champions also have a rising star in the midfield who goes by the name of Joao Gomes.
The 20-year-old completed 90 minutes against Ceara in order to give former Juventus and Atletico star Diego, 36, a rest.
