Pogba is now the most expensive player of all time, beating Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo’s Bernabeu moves, but Juventus did not pocket the full fee.

A staggering £21m was paid to Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola, while his former club Le Havre were treated to a solidarity payment.

Raiola’s fee had been holding up the deal, with Juventus insisting that United pay it.

But the Italian champs eventually agreed to hand the super-agent his cut, with Max Allegri reportedly hoping to snare another of his clients – Paris Saint-Germain ace Blaise Matuidi.

And now that Pogba’s deal has been completed, new boss Jose Mourinho is confident he can shine during his second spell at the Theatre of Dreams – despite criticism of the transfer by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger and Liverpool gaffer Jurgen Klopp.

Mourinho said: “When I heard some of the comments and heard some of the managers criticising that, I don’t think they ever have this problem because, to have this problem, you need to be at one of the top clubs in the world.

“So at Man United it can happen. But he’s a very young player, an unbelievable midfield player with such physicality but, at the same time, such agility, co-ordination, skill. He has everything.

“What he has to learn now is how to play with us because I always say that in football you can be a super player, like he is, but a team is a team and you need to learn how to play in the team, and the team needs to learn how to play with you.”

Pogba’s move is likely to conclude United’s business in the current transfer window, with Mourinho revealing he was targeting four specific areas after replacing Louis van Gaal.

Eric Bailly and Zlatan Ibrahimovic were signed to strengthen United’s defence and attack respectively, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan also joining to add more creativity in midfield.
