EVERTON boss Ronald Koeman is lining up a move to sign Juan Mata from Manchester United.
Koeman is considering a bid for the Spanish midfielder who appears surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.
Mata is only regarded as a squad player by new boss Jose Mourinho who is understood to be willing to let the 28-year-old leave if the right offer came in.
And Dutch paper claim Mata could be interested in making the switch to Goodison Park to link up with Koeman.
The Toffees boss is actively trying to bring in new players, with his budget boosted by the £47.5million sale of John Stones to Manchester City.
He is already close to sealing a £12million deal with Swansea for Ashley Williams who will be a direct replacement for England defender Stones.
And he will fork out another £28m to sign Yannick Bolasie from Crystal Palace with the wide man holding talks over personal terms.
But the chance to bring a player of Mata's quality will be one that attracts Koeman, with United seemingly prepared to cut their losses on a player they signed for £40million three years ago.

The midfielder was left reeling on Sunday after he was substituted by Mourinho in the Community Shield win over Leicester having only come onto the pitch as sub himself.
Mata himself has not been pushing for a move away from Old Trafford and is settled in the north-west, so making a short journey to Merseyside would not be unpopular.
United boss Mourinho has made no secret he only wants to work with a small squad of players this season - and also knows if he wants to make any further signings he may need to sell first.
