Phil Jagielka to Sunderland: David Moyes eyes reunion with Everton skipper as Toffees chase Lamine Kone
New Black Cats boss wants Goodison captain included in £14million deal for Ivory Coast defender
DAVID MOYES wants a reunion with Phil Jagielka at Sunderland.
The new Black Cats boss will demand that the Everton captain is included in any deal that could take Lamine Kone to Goodison.
The Toffees are eyeing a £14million move for the Ivory Coast defender after selling John Stones to Manchester City for £47.5m.
Ronald Koeman also had a £12.5m bid accepted for Swansea skipper Ashley Williams on Tuesday as he looks to overhaul the leaky defence he inherited from axed Roberto Martinez.
And former Everton chief Moyes believes the Dutch manager could be willing to part with Jagielka.
The ex-England international turns 34 next week and returned from a hamstring injury to play 45 minutes against Espanyol at the weekend.
He kept Stones out of the Toffees’ starting line-up last season but is not expected to feature as heavily this term.
Moyes signed Jagielka from Sheffield United in 2007 and he has made 263 Premier League appearances for the club.
Kone, 27, helped Sunderland stay up last season after Sam Allardyce signed him from French side Lorient in January.
The 6ft 1in star made 15 appearances for the Stadium of Light club, scoring two goals.
