Liverpool to get £2m transfer kitty boost from Danny Ings move to Aston Villa from Southampton as part of sell-on clause
LIVERPOOL received a £2million transfer boost thanks to a sell-on clause in Danny Ings' contract.
Aston Villa moved quickly to complete a shock £25m deal for Ings from Southampton on Wednesday night.
The striker, 29, has left Southampton after three seasons on the South Coast to sign a three-year deal at Villa Park.
The shock move comes after Ings rejected a lucrative new deal with the Saints last month, putting the Premier League's top clubs on red alert.
But despite being linked with moves to Tottenham, Manchester United and Manchester City, it was Dean Smith's Aston Villa that finally landed him.
And Ings' former club Liverpool will be delighted to receive after they included a sell-on clause in their deal with Southampton back in 2019.
After failing to make an impression at Anfield, and suffering two long-term injuries, Ings was loaned out to Southampton for the 2018-19 season in a bid to get his career back on track.
The striker's loan was made permanent a year later for a fee of around £18m and the agreement reportedly guaranteed Liverpool
Ings found prolific goalscoring form at St Mary's, scoring 46 goals in 100 games.
The three-cap England forward becomes Villa's fourth signing of the summer, joining the likes of Ashley Young, Emiliano Buendia and Leon Bailey to their squad.
About his new signing, Smith said: "He is a top professional with a great character who will be a leader in our squad and a role model for our rapidly developing young academy players."
The Villans are building a new-look side that will not include talisman Jack Grealish, who has finally completed his £100MILLION British record move to Man City.
I am delighted to welcome Danny to our great club.

Despite the unexpected £2m transfer boost, Liverpool have only made the one signing so far this summer, bringing RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate, 22, to Anfield for a fee of £36m.
The club have also tied down some of their biggest stars to new, long-term deals, included the likes of Fabinho, Trent Alexander-Arnold and goalkeeper Alisson.
It comes after the club lost Gini Wijnaldum, 30, on a free-transfer to PSG this summer after failing to agree a new deal with the Dutch midfielder.
