Everton on red alert with Salomon Rondon set to be available on free transfer as Dalian Pro deal could be axed

SALOMON RONDON could be the next Chinese Super League star to be released from his contract - sparking a Premier League scramble for his services.

The situation in the CSL has changed dramatically in the last year due to financial issues and the pandemic.

Big-name players such as ex-Tottenham midfielder Paulinho and Brazilian compatriot Leo Baptistao are among those to have had their deals cut short.

SunSport understands ex-Newcastle forward Rondon, 31, could follow suit due to the uncertainty out in the Far East.

It has a number of top flight clubs in England monitoring his situation to see if the Venezuelan will soon become a free agent.

His old Toon boss Rafa Benitez, who took Rondon to current club Dalian Pro when manager there, is among those watching on with interest.

The new Everton boss is keen to add some firepower to his Goodison Park attack.

And Rondon - who also enjoyed a spell at West Brom - could be just what Benitez is after.

Rondon scored 35 times in 140 games during his time in the Premier League.

After leaving the Baggies, he signed for Dalian Pro scoring 14 times in 27 games.

But he joined Russian Premier League side Zenit St Petersburg on loan earlier this year and could now be released by the Chinese side.

Meanwhile, Everton are also believed to be in the hunt for Real Madrid outcast Marco Asensio.

Real Madrid are looking to flog players to raise money for Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland deals.

And Asensio is reportedly seen as a prime candidate for a summer sale.

Leeds and Leicester have also been linked with the Spaniard, who played 48 times in all competitions for Los Blancos last season.
