Norwich make £15m Adam Armstrong bid but face transfer competition from Southampton and Watford

NORWICH CITY are making a record £15 million-plus bid for Blackburn Rovers hot shot Adam Armstrong.

The Canaries are offering cash plus Republic of Ireland prospect Adam Idah, who they rate at £5 million.

The offer is close to the level that Rovers owners Venkys want for prolific Armstrong, who is also being chased by Southampton and Watford.

Blackburn could sell Armstrong, 24, to a Premier League side now rather than lose him for nothing at the end of the season when his deal expires.

Rovers would rather have the cash in full after turning down other player-swap ideas.

They have to give Newcastle United 40 per cent of the profit.

Southampton may come back into the race after Danny Ings completed his shock £25m move to Aston Villa.

The England frontman - and Bayer Leverkusen flier Leon Bailey - have joined Villa in advance of Jack Grealish's expected £100m exit to Manchester City.

Ings, 29, was in the final year of his contract and had rejected a new deal.

Saints’ manager Ralph Hasenhuttl said: ";We can replace him with the money we have got.

"We know that we need two more players so we must be looking, still to buy them cheaper and sell them for more.

"We lose an important striker who scored a lot of goals and we must split the goals he scored amongst our player, on their shoulder.

COMPETITION: SPOT THE BALL TO WIN A CAR AND CASH

"We will hopefully get two or three more in and I am sure that we will replace him.”

Blackburn ideally want just cash for Armstrong.

Talk of part-exchange deals involving Watford's Andre Gray of Watford and Southampton frontman Michael Obafemi came to nothing.
