Former Newcastle man Steven Taylor has a nightmare debut for MLS side Portland Timbers

STEVEN TAYLOR failed to impress as he endured a nightmare debut for his new club Portland Timbers.

The 30-year-old former Newcastle defender joined the MLS side earlier in the summer and made an instant impression on his first outing for his new US employers – but not the type he was hoping for.

After netting an own goal inside ten minutes, he was then hauled off after 60 minutes with his team trailing 3-0, only for them to come back and win 4-3 after his departure.

Luckily for him his forgettable first outing came for Timbers second-string against their LA Galaxy counterparts, although the club’s fans will be hoping for better once he appears for the first-team.

Just nine minutes were on the clock when Taylor slid in to cut out a cross but inadvertently put the ball into his own net to open the scoring.

Things got worse as they conceded another two to go in at the break trailing by three.

He left the action shortly after the restart, and with Taylor off the pitch, his team-mates staged their remarkable comeback to win the game.

Taylor left Newcastle after 21-years and over 200 appearances for the Championship side.
