According to the , the 26-year-old midfielder has a whopping £126million release clause in his contract.

But he could go for as little as £45m due to Atletico's dire financial situation.

United are on the hunt for a first team midfielder with contract rebel Paul Pogba's future at the club in doubt.

Liverpool are also interested in Saul, but are unlikely to make a move until they ship a midfielder out of the club.

Saul has also been offered to fellow LaLiga giants Barcelona, and a potential swap deal involving Antoine Griezmann was discussed.

But the Frenchman wasn't informed of the negotiations, making the deal complicated, according to RMC journalist .

United appear to be the best placed team, and can afford to take on Saul's massive wages.

Wherever Saul ends up, his current manager Diego Simeone is keen for the situation to end on good terms.

The Argentine said: "We cannot put aside what is rumoured and talked about.

“If he has to leave, [I’ll] give him a big hug, wish him the best with the boys who gave us life and to continue being friends, as always.
