CARLO ANCELOTTI suffered defeat in the first game of his second spell in charge of Real Madrid.

The former Everton boss' team were beaten 2-1 by Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard's Rangers at Ibrox.

Rodrygo put Ancelotti's men 1-0 up after just eight minutes with a brilliant solo goal.

And Los Blancos held on to that lead until half-time.

But the Scottish champs came flying out the blocks after the break and levelled the scores through Fashion Sakala on 55 minutes.

Despite the game only being a pre-season friendly, Real midfielder Nacho was sent-off for a second yellow 20 minutes later.

And the Gers made the extra man count almost immediately.

Cedric Itten struck just two minutes later and the goal turned out to be the winner.

Ancelotti started Isco, Marcelo and former Arsenal loanee Martin Odegaard but the strength of his team was not enough to take the win.

The Italian, 62, left Everton for the Bernabeu at the beginning of June.

He replaced Los Blancos legend Zinedine Zidane after his Toffees contract was terminated.

The ex-Chelsea boss spent two seasons in charge at Real from 2013 to 2015, winning 75 per cent of his 119 matches and lifting the Champions League, Copa del Rey and Club World Cup, before his brutal sacking.

Last month it emerged Ancelotti is set to hand Gareth Bale a Los Blancos lifeline.
