According to , Spurs have given Alderweireld the green light to leave, with the defender now set to agree personal terms.

He will then fly to the Middle East to complete a medical and bring a close to his six years at Spurs following his arrival from Atletico Madrid in 2015.

Tottenham are already pushing to sign Atalanta centre-back Cristian Romero, who is subject to a £42m offer.

They have also seen an opening bid of around £13m turned down by Bologna for Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Antwerp were believed to have had an approach turned down earlier in the summer which could have seen ex-Ajax man Alderweireld return to Holland.

But Al-Duhail's bid is said to be closer to the £13m that Spurs value the defender at, due to the two years left remaining on his contract.

Alderweireld, who helped Belgium to the quarter-finals of the Euros before losing to eventual winners Italy, made 35 appearances last season.

DREAM TEAM IS BACK!

He was a favourite among former Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho and even signed a new deal when the ex-Chelsea boss arrived in 2020.

But with Mourinho now gone, and Nuno at the helm, the 32-year-old has been deemed surplus to requirements.

SunSport in early July revealed Spurs were willing to let Alderweireld leave in an effort to get his £100,000-a-week wages off their books.
