NYC’s Frank Lampard mocks himself on Instagram by saying he’s older than his FIFA pace… but he’s also MLS player of the month!
Ex-England star, 38, can't help noticing the figures don't add up
STATS embarrassing! Frank Lampard has taunted himself on Instagram by pointing out that his age is now officially greater than his pace statistics.
New York City's former England midfielder, 38, was never exactly a candidate to play for Sprinter Milan.
But he now rates his mobility as more jet-lagged than jet-heeled.
Nonetheless, just as Lampard was mocking his latest stats breakdown, he was also being named Major League soccer's player of the month after six goals in July.
But the ex-Chelsea long-server, who also played for West Ham and Manchester City, noted that his latest grades were way down in the speed zone.
He excelled with 87 in shooting, 86 in passing and 80 in dribbling. But his pace was a slow-motion 36.
Lampard posted: "Older than my own pace".
The Instagram response was more than 20,00 likes as fans around the world appreciated his self-deprecation.
Lampard won the MLS monthly award after peaking with a hat-trick in the 5-1 rout of Colorado Rapids as NYCFY won four games and drew their other two.
In fact, Lampard's run of eight goals in seven matches has destroyed his tag of "worst ever MLS signing" - earned earlier by sluggish form and injuries.
He famously hit 147 goals in 429 games for Chelsea, as well as 29 in 106 for England.
Most of those strikes proved that speed of thinking and timing of runs can make up for modest pace.
And now Lampard's ex-Three Lions colleague Steven Gerrard must hope he can turn around his fortunes for LA Galaxy just as dramatically.
