The 29-year-old, who played for AC  Milan last season, has signed on for a year with an option for a further season.

Boateng becomes Las Palmas boss Quique Setien's fourth signing ahead of the 2016/17 LaLiga campaign after Hélder Lopes, Mako Livaja and Michel Macedo.

He originally came through the Hertha Berlín youth system before signing for Tottenham in 2007 at the age of 20.

Ex-Spurs director of football Damien Comolli admitted that the club made a mistake in signing Boateng, saying it may well have been the club's fault that he was a flop at White Hart Lane.

Boateng made just over a dozen Premier League appearances in the two years before moving to Portsmouth.

“When he came, I think he was not ready to move to the Premier League - he was not ready to move to a different country.," said Comolli. "We just looked at the talent. We forgot to look at the individual off the pitch, and that was probably our failure more than his.”

However, after an excellent World Cup 2010 campaign with Ghana Boateng moved to Milan where he enjoyed his best football.

A 2013 move back to Germany saw him join Schalke 04, where he remained for two seasons.

After two seasons with the Bundesliga outfit he returned to AC Milan last season as a free agent but failed to impress.
