Former Real Madrid star Higuain, who has signed a five-year deal, has now cost a total of £117.6m.

And it means he has jumped overnight from being the 96th most expensive player of all time to the third.

Over the years only di Mario and Ibrahimovic have cost more.

Winger Di Maria's moves from Benfica to Real Madrid to Manchester United and on to Paris St Germain amount to £150.4m.

Swedish forward Ibrahimovic may have arrived at Manchester United on a free from PSG but he'd previously cost Ajax, Juventus, Inter Milan, Barcelona and AC Milan a combined £142.1m.

The only more expensive individual transfer deals Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale,  who cost £80m and £86m respectively. Both moved to Real Madrid.

Juventus, meanwhile,  will also pay 28-year-old Higuaine £6.3 million a year.

Higuain scored 71 times in just 104 appearances at Napoli and another 30 times for the Argentina national side. He ended the 2015/16 season as the top scorer in Italy's Serie A league.

Before Napoli he also had a six-year stint at Real Madrid, where he scored 107 times.
