Earlier this week, it was claimed Ek - worth £3.5billion according to Forbes - had teamed up with Arsenal legends Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira and Dennis Bergkamp in an attempt to take control of the club.

It is believed that Kroenke could be open to selling the North London giants for around £2bn.

And now the Swedish billionaire and lifelong Gooner has confirmed he is keen to push ahead with the deal having secured the money.

When asked about how much substance there was to his potential Arsenal bid, Ek told CNBC: “I’m very serious.

"I have secured the funds for it and I want to bring a very compelling offer to the owners.

"I hope they hear me out.

“I certainly didn’t expect this will happen overnight and I prepared for this to be a long journey.”

Kroenke, 73, is chairman of KSE and joined the Arsenal board in 2008, three years before becoming majority shareholder.

Should Ek's offer be accepted by the American, then French duo Henry and Vieira as well as Dutch icon Bergkamp would return to the Emirates as part of the new set-up.

The quartet are looking to capitalise on the supporters' anger aimed at the Kroenkes after they were forced to pull out from the hated European Super League.

Furious supporters gathered en masse at the Emirates on Friday prior to their clash against Everton to call for Kroenkes' departure.

And some fans even hung an EFFIGY of Kroenke outside the stadium.

Ek - who launched Spotify, now worth around £58bn, in 2008 - recently got Arsenal fans excited after tweeting: "As a kid growing up, I’ve cheered for Arsenal as long as I can remember.

"If KSE would like to sell Arsenal I'd be happy to throw my hat in the ring."

But now that offer seems to have a little more substance to it after his recent statement.
